Re: Mirena effects on Liver???? and thyroid???
I am guessing that May 09 was a mistype?
Yes, everything you are describing are "typical" complaints from the Mirena.
From what I have read, the synthetic progestin in Mirena is metaboloized in the liver, so it would make sense that you could have issues there. Thyroid complaints are very common-not sure if it is an underlying condition brought out by the mirena, or mirena causes it. Regardless, it is a real possibility. Thyroid problems may not always show up in bloodwork until they are severe. It also may not necessarily be a thyroid disease, so much as your thyroid responding to a systemic stress. (that can be alleviated by removal). Hopefully Jane will chime in here-she has a much better understanding of thyroid problems.
The fatigue/feeling stoned/lethargy (not in "my own head") was/can still be the worst for me. (most of the physical side effects are gone, or almost gone) I am certain overuse of
Antibiotics was a HUGE contributing factor for me on these symptoms. If you have a history of
Antibiotic use, you may want to start drinking probiotics-very helpful for me.
It does get worse if you keep it, sorry-I went almost the full five, and by the end I was barely functioning. 6 month post-I am much, much better.
Best of luck! If you are done w/babies-I am a HUGE fan of vasectomies :-). Someday I might forgive my husband for refusing one the first time (when I ended up with mirena...)
