That one woman's fast is coming out ok with vitamins doesn't for me overpower the 10,000 Shelton patients who didn't use them. Since Olivia doesn't seem to have returned to genuine hunger, perhaps she would have had a lot less hunger along the way (and a generally more comfortable and otherwise optimal fast) without them.

I believe it's more like neither of them were up on the fasting literature, Aaron felt intuitively that vitamins would be helpful and Olivia went along with it since she didn't have a strong opinion to the contrary, not that "the wife must do everything her husband says no matter what".
