Re: How to have energy on a water fast?

"A mechanical stomach outside of you". I really like that mouseclick ;).

Hi Megan,

i remember ya :).

"Any suggestions on how I can have energy on my fast this time around? I am taking a class this summer so I need to be awake enough to complete some assignments, walk to class, etc."

In terms of how to have more energy while water fasting, from what i have learned from chrisb1, you would have to start the fast with no toxemia. But the catch 22 of it is that you need to fast to eliminate toxemia ;). Actually you can cleanse at a less agressive rate via juicing (about 1/3 as fast) and at a less agressive rate yet via engaging in a diet of primarily raw fruits and vegetables.

If you were to Water Fast now, your energy levels would be similar to what they were when you fasted a month ago. You can't get around that but you can adapt to it by getting up slowly (and actually taking a couple of deep breaths first is said to help get your heart pumping faster), laying down and otherwise resting when you need to. The one thing that helps me somewhat to feel more energetic in a Water Fast is brisk walking twice a day, though i can't say it would work for everybody.

Otherwise, i will agree with everybody else that if you need more strength and energy, a juice "fast" could be a very good compromise.

"I really want to Water Fast again though, to lose weight (about 25-30 pounds) and to regain control over my life. (mentally)."

Since the loss of water weight is only temporary, i believe you'd have to fast about 50-70 days or longer to accomplish this much fat burning in a fast (though i am in no way recommending this). Probably better to plan on healthful eating and exercise (the more intense the better) in such a way as to lose perhaps 2 pounds per week over 13-15 weeks. For some, a fast can be a disciplining catylist and thus a great way to jumpstart the fat loss and the good habits and get yourself headed in the right direction.
