Re: Good first post!

Welcome! Well, that was a good first post! Made me think a lot.

I hadn't thought about the reason why people want to lose weight. I just though "I want to lose weight" and "A B and C want to lose weight". You are right though, if you are doing it because of what other people think of you, that's really bad, because that is driven by fear - fear of what people think of you if you don't lose weight. In that case, I guess you don't even consider the primary objective of health, which is really the engine that puts your body into good shape and makes you nice and slim.

Now I started at BMI 43, and I am now BMI 27. I wanted to lose weight not because what others thought of me, but because I realised that I would be in serious trouble health-wise if I didn't. Then I discovered how easy fasting was (and I suspect this is because my mind was at peace with no fear) and that was it!

Along the way I managed to get my appetite changed, and I suspect you may too with this new attitude. Then I discovered that the periods between fasting were the main things on which I was losing weight. Now I have changed to healthy eating and exercise, and I will do my fast at the end of my weight loss, for spiritual and health reasons (I think it will help with atherosclerosis and cholesterol levels). I also think that weight loss by healthy eating and exercise is faster and more controllable, however fasting will work for you I am sure, because you have the right mental attitude. And I am sure you will evolve, because you seem to be putting one foot forward then the other and seeing things in a different perspective from your new viewpoint.

You might also want to check out the diet and nutrition support forum, where there are some interesting chats going on about meat quality and plant based diets.

What started with fasting has now made me look at the bigger picture of me and how I relate to the planet. I hate labels, but I think that maybe pantheism. I only found out about that some months ago, and thought that's a bit like me.

Good luck with your journey!

Steve
