Re: Best Supplements for Brain Function (Mental Clarity, Memory, Concentration & Focus) - Preparing for Standardized Test
brownsugarflyygirl,
the best supplements for Brain function are (and not necessarily in this chronological order of importance) can be described as follows:
"#1. Amino acids: neurotransmitters such as serotonin, which is involved in mood, or adrenalin which gives you motivation, or acetylcholine which is vital for good memory, are made from these amino acids from the protein that you eat, so an amino acid supplement would be a good idea in the short term.
#2. A good Multivitamin/mineral, where #1. and their production in the Brain depends on these vitamins/minerals.
These micronutrients help turn glucose into energy, amino acids into neurotransmitters, simple essential fats into more complex fats like GLA or DHA and Prostaglandins, and choline and serine into phospholipids.
They help build and rebuild the Brain and nervous system and keep everything running smoothly. They have been described as your Brains best friends.
#3. High dose B Complex of approx' 50mg ratio per day will also improve Brain and cognitive function and increase energy production from food.
#4. A good Brain-food formula taken each day should include choline, PS (Phosphatidylserine), DMAE, pyroglutamate (from fruits and vegetables) and pantothenic acid, as well as Omega 3 fats as in Krill-Oil or Flaxseed Oil.
#5. Avoid
Sugar and refined carbs' including caffeine and alcohol from beverages, as these interfere with the neuro pathways and are in themselves draining of nerve energy or the life-force.
The essential thing to bear in mind here is that these supplements will have a "synergistic" effect where, taken together, they act in unison as a team, and therefore far more effective than taken individually.

BTW. A nutritional product that targets Brain and Nervous system health is "Neurozan" which I take every single day.
The mental benefits are simply amazing.
