Re: Very scared please give feedback

First off, let me start by saying I've had Chronic pancreatitis for 5 years now which developed after several recurring attacks over this time. The initial acute attack left me in bad shape and had me shipped to Jackson memorial/University of Miami for 6 months. I was given a 10% chance to live (this was from ductal blockage)I was in horrific pain and still am in many cases, but thanks to the support of my family and having one of the best MD's in the world on this issue I made it through it. Not all cases (especially acute) are anywhere near as bad as mine was and should be no indicator as to the severity of your case.

I'm very sorry to hear of your fathers passing. You have my deepest sympathies. Please do not mistake Pancreatic cancer for pancreatitis though. You're typing this so I'm guessing you're not hospitalized at the moment. This may be a good thing in regards to what your MD's think of your case. I know this is a scary diagnosis for you (or anyone for that matter.)To be perfectly honest you haven't given enough info about your case though which would help us greatly.

Some basic info like:
What's the cause of the pancreatitis?
Are you or were you hospitalized for it?
What area are you in? (Florida, California, NY, and so on) we may be able to recommend you to some physicians.
What's the current course of treatment?
Are you NPO? (no food or liquid)
Amylase and Lipase levels?
Severity of pain?

My biggest concern for you is to not panic. This is not a death sentence and can be treated. Pancreatitis is a tough disease but you can't let it beat you down or cause you to panic. It's been 5 years for me and I see several MD's a month, but I do manage a fairly normal life and so can you. Just take everything one at a time and never let it overwhelm you. During this time DO NOT FORGET to stand up for yourself as a patient. NEVER let a physician or nurse walk on you or tell you how you feel. You will have to fight for yourself from time to time. Just remember THEY work for you not the other way around. Good luck and God bless! You have friends here who can help.

J
