Re: sunflower seeds

Unhulled seeds are intact and can be grown for greens or all the way to maturity.Hulled seeds can be sprouted but will not have the ability to reach green or maturity.Hulled is great for indoor and unhulled is great for the outdoors.Hulled is fast and easy and unhulled is much more labor intensive and takes more time.Sunflower sprouting is pretty straight forward and the same growing tech. will work. The main differance is the soaking.Sunflower seeds float so the bad ones will sink, the opposite applies to grass.Sunflowers love it hot and wet and grow well here in central Illinois in the summer time. The larger seeds make for improved air serculation which helps reduce fungal issues.Wheatgrass trays are known for having fungus gnats and there offspring are of the maggot kind.Fungus is as it is and moisture control will keep it at bay and nothing else will. The best watering tech. for stubborn fungus is to water from the bottom up.Soil augments must be broken down buy microbial activity before nutrients will be available to the plants.Molasses is a super junk food from the Sugar industry and is best used as a sweetener not as a soil augment.
