Re: Weight Loss: Water Fasting -v- Fuhrman, so far
Yep, I pretty much agree with that, although a year ago I would have said fasting is great for weight loss. But now my own stats have shown me otherwise.
Two points though...
1) I would think it's best if people are well nourished before they start a fast. I sometimes think people try to fast - often for weight loss but sometimes for other reasons - and they have already tried diets and failed. They get into this loop of fasting and failing, because their body keeps telling them to eat, and when they do eat they go back to making the same mistakes. I think the only way out of that is to eat high ND food before fasting, and that will help with any detox too. And at least you can change to healthy eating gradually, whereas with a fast it's all or nothing. And I now think this is the only way forward post-fast anyway, else fasting becomes no more than a sticking plaster. So you may as well learn to eat properly at the start, else fasting will be a waste of time (that seems to be Fuhrman's argument anyway from what little I have seen).
2) I think that for people that can't do fasts for any medical reasons, healthy eating with lots of micro-nutrients may be a better way or the only way forward. I think this may be also be a better for those who experience severe detox symptoms, as this detoxes you more gently.
Would Natural Hygiene agree with those I wonder?
When I have time I will read Goldhamer's Pleasure Trap and Fuhrman's book on fasting, but I have a lot on my plate at the mo (and it's all green).
