After Taking Prozac, Teen Beats Father to Death with Hammer

A teenager beat his father to death with a hammer just weeks after being prescribed Prozac, reports DailyMail (UK). Edward Belben, just 15 years old, hit his father 30 times and then stabbed him in the head with a knife. He then attacked his mother with a crowbar and stabbed her in the face.

Belben has just been convicted of murder by a jury. During the court case, it emerged that he had been prescribed Citalopram by his doctor, even though its use on children under 18 has been illegal under UK law since 2003. When he started complaining of feeling like he was stuck in a "dream-like state," another doctor prescribed him Prozac at twice the recommended safe dosage for children and teens, dosing him with 20mg of Prozac per day.

Belben then reportedly told a psychiatrist, "I didn't feel real," according to DailyMail
