Re: Lobelia Tincture Making or Buying

Hi Unyquity,
Thank you thank you thank you so much for your advice.

I will wait about another week to be sure that Dr. S's drops are for sure working and then jump in and make my own. My boyfriend also has asthma (worse than me) ... he hasn't even gone off his Advair yet. I'm the ginea pig on the Lobelia tincture haha.

I was looking at the Healingtools website for the recipe as well(here it is):
Formula: Lobelia Seed Pod Tincture is made by the following Dr. Schulze Method:
1. Make this Tincture, using the Cayenne Pepper Tincture Method.
2. Substitute enough DRIED Lobelia Seed Pods, 1 part - Organic RAW Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (i.e.-Bragg's) and 1 part - Grain Alcohol (100 Proof Vodka).
NOTE: Herbal Tinctures are usually made with Alcohol ONLY, but Lobelia has some Constituents, which are soluble in Alcohol ONLY and some Constituents, which are soluble in Vinegar ONLY.

So they refer to the Cayenne Pepper Tincture method here, which is confusing(here it is):
1. Start to make the Tincture, if possible, on a NEW Moon.
2. Take a quart Canning Jar and fill it One-Fourth FULL with DRIED Cayenne Peppers, getting the HOTTEST ones (i.e. - Habanero, African Bird, Serrano, Jalapeno - 90,000+ Heat Units), that you can obtain.
3. Add enough 50% Grain Alcohol (100 Proof Vodka) to the Cayenne Peppers, that have been powdered, using a Blender or Grinder, to just cover them.
4. Use enough FRESH Cayenne Peppers, that you can blend with 50% Grain Alcohol (100 Proof Vodka) and turn the Mixture into an Apple Sauce-Like Consistency.
5. Add this Mixture to the 1st Mixture, filling the Canning Jar up to Three-Fourths FULL.
6. Fill up the rest of the jar with MORE 50% Grain Alcohol (100 Proof Vodka).
7. Shake it as MANY times as possible, during the day.
8. Let this Mixture sit, until the following FULL Moon (15-16 Days), but OPTIMALLY until the following NEW Moon (28-29 Days)!
9. Strain this Mixture through an UNBLEACHED Coffee Filter.
10. Bottle the RESULTING Tincture.

So (by referencing the Cayenne tincture), am I supposed to do half of the Lobelia tincture with the seeds (or plants) DRIED and grinded (and how grinded ... powder or just little pieces?), and then the second half with FRESH Lobelia herb (again grinded? or blended ... with the alchohol)? But then the Lobelia recipe says to use one part ACV and one part Alcohol? And the Lobelia recipe says to use DRIED Lobelia Seed Pods (I suppose seeds are good too), so that would make it more like a one process recipe rather than the Cayenne one, which looks like two processes (1/2 DRIED & 1/2 FRESH),then mixed together at the end (and shaken). Am I crazy, or is this confusing? Especially since Pacific Botanicals sells the FRESH plant as well as the DRIED seed. Maybe I'm too literal, and either way, it will probably work (who knows) ... Please Help me with some of this if you can.

And then there's your version ... you do separate 1/2 ACV & 1/2 Alcohol tinctures and mix together after two weeks, which makes alot of sense from what you've said.

One more thing (if not toooo much), what kind of batch bottles do you use for preparing the tincture (not for storing), and how many should I fill on my first batch?

I know I'm a huuuuuuge pain, 'cuz I want to get it right. So thanks in advance a million times!

CJ
