Re: To Waterbug, fasting for weight loss

"Can anyone comment on this, or point me to anywhere I can find info on metabolic rated during and after fasting?"

I can't point to information, but I can tell you that this was definitely my experience too. I did regular fasts years ago for seven days and they would only help me control my weight. When I started eating again after the short fasts, I did not have a tendency to gain weight from the fast. I went through this several times. Then one day I decided to go longer. I went approximately 20 days. That fast ruined my life. When I started eating again it seemed like even the smell of food packed on the pounds. I did not eat more than I did after the seven day fasts, but this time I was gaining weight like mad from the same amount of food that I was eating before the fast. If I would have stuck with the shorter fasts I would have had it made. I made a big mistake by going on a long fast without knowledge of how this can effect a body if not done right. If a person is going to go on a long fast it is very important to break it right and eat healthy afterwards in order to keep from gaining weight like mad. I went from trying to lose a few pounds to becoming obese. I know of no other answer for this but a drastic decrease in my metabolism. This is definitely not a case of weight gain caused by emotional problems which I do not identify with. There had to be a physical reason for this. There is nothing wrong with having a slow metabolism if you eat less as your body requires less food. I think this could even be healthy. It would mean much less garbage that you would have to put in your body. I became very scared of fasting for years after this. Now I am more educated on the subject and am learning to fast again. I realize the mistakes that I made. It is harder now as I am much more toxic, but I have learned to do short fasts of up to four days with ease. My goal is to get up to seven again with ease. I believe I will make it someday. Seven days may be enough for me. I have no other fasting goals except to hear the voice of God on the matter.
