Re: Islamic Fasting

We fast on Mondays and Thursdays every week and we fast for 3 days on the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar calendar for Arabic.

When we fast we start the fast before sunrise and break it at sunset. Not continual. So no water or food. So this is a great cleanse for the entire body and it remind you of the poor.

So your question 3 days of fasting and then break with what. No, we fast sunrise to sunset and then break our fast and then again the next day the same and the following day the same.

We never unless for a specific reason fast everyday as it is bad for the body and the eyes as told by our prophet. The fast of David was every other day. But one of the companions of the prophet did this and stated he wished he had listened to his prophet as when he was old he lost his eyesight and became very sick.

We have many additional fast during the year also.

Ramadan - 30 days

After Ramadan in the month of Shaban 6 days of fasting
Hijr Month or the last month of the Islamic calendar 9 days fasting
Muharram which is the first month of the Islamic Calendar 2 days fasting

Fasting is good for everyone if done properly. It quiets you, this I need. It makes you be thankful for more and it brings you closer to our Lord.
