The refractometer I have does have temp compensation, but it does look like I bought the wrong meter. My meter has readouts for specific gravity, which is the measurment I'm using to convert to Brix readings. So far, I haven't tested anything close to 1.08 SG or 19.31 Brix. Closes was a Washington apple I tested @ 17 Brix or 1.07 SG.
I must agree with you, it is quite fun to test all the fruits and vegies I've bought. One may find "good quality" foods in unexpected places, and certain so called "organic" produce may not be as good as one might have thought. Only one way to be sure... TEST IT!
