Don't know about the type you have, but what folks here are using is a refractometer that gives 0-32 percent brix reading, and has automatic compensation for temperature changes. Otherwise one would have to recalibrate very often!
Mine came from EBAY. If one goes there, important to read product description carefully. Some are cheap plastic toys, some made of metal.
Regarding the diff in brix in a plant, you can check for your self.
Readings vary with nutrients, weather, age of plant, and place in plant with highest brix varies, too.
At the height of summer, I found some 14+ fuzzy reading tomatoes. Their leaves read the same.
My high brix winter squash also had top quality leaves and shoots. I ate lots of this for greens. Tasted something like cucumber, but tended to have a bit of heavy fiber in it.
Exploring all this can be lots of fun, and as we select better foods, will help our health!
And if we all report our findings here, we will have a good idea what to be looking for, as will those new to the site.
