Yeah, it would be hard to believe a "decent" rating for something generally as sweet as cherries tend to be, is the same as carrots. I would expect most all fruit will have higher average sugar content versus leaf or roots. I assume fruit will have the highest average brix ratings, then leaf, and the roots probably have the lowest average, generaly speaking.

Another thing I forgot to ask. Are there any major difference between the refractometers? I got one that was designed to measure specific gravity and ppt salt. I have already found a conversion table for SG to Brix conversion, but my problem is that the highest SG reading is 1.08 specific gravity which only is up to 19.1 Brix. Are the refractometers physically identical(they look to be) except for the markings?
