Re: look again~~there is confusion
Actually, erythritol is the
Sugar alcohol least likely to cause bloating, as the body absorbs it in the small intestine, and intestinal bacteria don't metabolize it.
Also, Truvia is a trademark... but I haven't found anything about a "patent" related to Truvia. Can anyone point me to this alleged "patent"?
Pepsi's version is called "PureVia" (also a trademark), and it includes isomaltulose as well as erythritol. Isomaltulose is an interestingly complex substance derived from
Sugar and basically treated by the body as a slower-burning sugar. Erythritol, on the other hand, is basically unused and excreted by the body. (Then again, "they" say the same thing about sucralose...)
Between the erythritol, isomaltulose, and rebiana(stevia) portions, I'm not really concerned with these sweeteners. The other ingredient, "natural flavors", is open to interpretation. Anyone already regularly drinking (diet) soft drinks, however, is likely to find this formula less harmful than anything else they're already drinking, so bear in mind the market it's targeting. If you're drinking diet sodas regularly already, going with the stevia-based formula is probably going to be advantageous. If you're not drinking diet sodas, Truvia/PureVia isn't a good reason to start!
