pre-menopausal symptoms?

Hello.

Not quite sure what forum is best to post, but since my doctor has told me that I'm not far from menopause and these symptoms have occurred just after each of my last 3 menstrual cycles, I thought perhaps someone on this board can provide some ideas of what may be happening.

I am 50 years old and for the past few years my periods are heavy with sizeable clots. The recent symptoms that have occurred have appeared the last day of each menstrual: tender/discomfort in the sigmoid colon (somewhat like a gas bubble), low back discomfort, intermittent shooting pains in rectum and vaginal floor region.

The first time this occurred(three months ago)the symptoms began the last day of my period lasted 14 days and completely disappeared. The primary symptom was the sigmoid colon discomfort. The second time began last day of period with the additional symptoms of intermittent shooting pains in rectum lasting for 9 days then disappeared. The third, and current time, began after the last day of my period and has now been 7 days.

I'm going to make a visit to my gynecologist after the first of the year to see what could be going on.
