I have been a lurker on this wonderful site for a few months. I must say that I feel (or have felt) your pain. That is what got me started on the naturopathic journey away from conventional medicine. I was getting migraines on average once a month and typically during the spring and fall a few a week. The frequency was increasing but imitrex was not working as well. So I happened upon a book at Barnes and Noble called, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Migraines. It was great! It mentions magnesium, riboflavin, and feverfew for ongoing migraine treatment in addition to watching for your triggers, etc. After starting on the supplements at the recommended levels, my migraine frequency dropped as well as the intensity dropped. It was great! When I have a migraine coming on (with the aura in the vision), I take a 250mg magnesium tablet. That is magnesium only -- no calcium as it interfers with magnesium absorption. If you need calcium take it at a different time than the magnesium. When taking the magnesium at the onset of a migraine, I can work through the migraine with few problems.
I am on an ultimate fast right now (day 6) to rid my body of toxins to help among other things rid myself of migraines for good and not be tethered to a supplement for migraines. Unfortunately I have not produced anything in my waste to write home about. It is getting rather boring and the cayenne powder is too strong for me. Now I am reading that it takes more that the 8 days to pass a rope. I guess I will have to persist. Tweet
