Hi, like you I was given the Mirena when I had a young baby from memory I think he was about three months old. He was unable to breast feed so I didn't have that to factor that in. At the time I was told by specialist that Mirena was a brilliant product and only a miniscule amount of hormone was bing released. I was feeling fantastic after the birth of my baby and my body was settling down, losing the pregnancy weight etc. Six months,post Mirena, after feeling totally crap, gaining weight, bad skin and bleeding daily I had it removed by my GP. That was almost eight years ago and my body has never been right. At about the same time I developed thyroid disease which I didn't have with my two other babies. And now I'm on thyroxine daily which there is nothing I can do about it.
This was finally diagnosed after I continued to gain weight and felt absolutely exhausted all the time. I certainly didn't feel like the sensational young mum like before!!
Recently I went to see a herbalist who has prescribed Vitex (Chaste tree) and finally I feel better - no pms, incessant bleeding etc.
What I was amazed about is that doctors will not accept that there is anything wrong with Mirena. Its like you don't question the wisdom of the drug companies!!
