Re: An alternative?
Hey there...long time since we talked. We have a Boys and Girls club, some kids use it, but it is a bit of a walk. There is also a PAL, also a bit of a walk, and both require a trip through various gangs and their so called territory. Seems a new trend is just beating up on kids who aren't in gangs.
I know of some teachers who would donate their time, but the district won't allow it, risk of lawsuits, accusations, etc. Seems we have too many lawyers and too many people out for a few dollars, no matter the cost.
I remember whittling, even at school during lunch and free time. But now, well...it's a crime, bringing a weapon to campus. I've been working with the probation officer for our area, trying to line up activities for the kids during the christmas break. We are still hoping something can happen, it is just that now, with our economy, no one is willing to commit any resources to anything worthwhile, yet if we had some stupid idea, like painting the window sills a different color, or the benches around the campus, a glow in the dark color, then money would appear...go figure.
