Your right John, we can at times work together but living together with cultural differences does not in my opinion truly work out.
Even white on white, black on black, yellow on yellow, they too have cultural, social differences.
A few examples one can point to is "castes in say India", "tribes in Africa", "class in anglo-saxons" and many European country's where "ethnic cleansing" takes place.
So it's not a "black and white" issue, it's found everywhere on the planet with different degrees of tolerance and we're stuck with it whether we like it or not.
We have laws to protect ourselves from intimidation of others but one only has to scratch the surface and find a mutual discrimination beckoning.
So yes John what you say is as close to reality as one can point out.
What sickens me is the idealists that stir up the trouble because they think it shouldn't be that way, well it is and the sooner they come to terms with it the sooner we will live in some sort of peace together.
