Potassium Bicarbonate added to water - what do you think?

After balking at the prices of the alkalizing "pH drops" currently on the market ($30 for a 1.2oz bottle of Alkalife? I don't think so!) - and after a recent purchasing experience on eBay in which I believe I may have been suc***ed into buying a "bad", expired batch of discounted Alkalife pH drops - I'm looking into simpler, cheaper ways of alkalizing my water. Right now, I'm zeroing in on plain 'ol potassium bicarbonate - I'm trying to figure out whether adding a "pinch" of potassium bicarbonate to a glass of water would be safe and beneficial. (I like potassium because this is a mineral which I think I may be especially deficient in right now. It is so easy to overload on sodium in your diet, but more difficult to take in the proper amount of potassium - and your body supposedly needs about 3-times more potassium as it does sodium.)

What do you guys think about using potassium bicarbonate as an alkalizing substance? (I certainly don't plan to go overboard with it - I'm leery of consuming water with a pH higher than 8.)
