Re: Staph Scalp Folliculitis

Hello daarchitect!

Welcome! Your post really touches on the fundamental problem surronding folliculitis. We just don't know much about it! I suffer from pure folliculitis decalvans my condition has been observed by many doctors some the top Derm's in the field. The one resounding message I always received was "There is no Medical explination for how one contract's folliculitis or how to cure it."

We throw a lot of pills mostly designed for other conditions at it because well that's the tools we have. Personally, I have taken my share of pills over the last 10+ years.. but yet the condition remained.. and the side effects from many of the treatments were nasty!

So what does someone like myself do? This condition it's not like something that just bothers you now and then. It's with you 24/7! My spouse would get freaked out when waking up at night to me scrathing the living daylights out of my head and being sound asleep. It's oh so easy to say, "Don't scratch your head then." but in reality it's just not possible (at least in my experience).

Life with FD was simply miserable. Now, being desperate for answers and relief. I had long wondered why if folliculitis attacked the hair would it not make sense that shaving the hair could improve the condition? I was advised it would not... but you know.. I did it anyway!

A funny thing happened after shaving. My condition, it improved dramatically! Why, it improved, I am sure there is some logical explination but being in control of the situation and not tearing my body up taking medication. It's sweet!

Now a interesting point you raise. How would other types of folliculitis respond to this form of treatment. Guess the only way to know is for people to give it a go :) I still feel all you got to lose is the condition!!

A growing number of folks here have been taking the leap of faith. So far, the response has been positive. If you would like to view pictures of my head you are certainly welcome to! I use to be ashame but well I lost that condition to lol...

It's nice to have a medical perspective on the boards! Again, welcome!
