Parotitis is inflammation of the salivary glands. It's usually caused by bacteria or viruses. The viral form of it is known as the "mumps". If he was suffering with parotitis I'd guess that he'd have fevers, etc., and it most likely would have shown up on his bloodwork.

I say you should take digitalman's advice. You'll probably get a lot better help at a chiropractor's office than at a medical office, especially since it seems the MD's have done all they can do.
