She sure sounds like an NPD! NPDs are very manipulative people and it sounds like she is that way. I bet strangers (other than store clerks!) think she's a very nice person and if you were to tell them otherwise, they would never believe you. NPDs don't change their stripes so I would suggest that you distance yourself as much as possible. By that I mean, don't get sucked into the drama. If she calls you and cries or complains, just listen and only interject with something like "uh huh". As for being a good grandmother---my NPD mother was a better grandmother than she was a mother. Although as my daughter got older, she began to see her grandmother differently--and I don't mean that in a positive way either. Tweet
