63 days with Mirena...will it ever get better?
Just thought I'd share my experience with Mirena so far. Before I got the Mirena IUD, I'd have slightly irregular, pretty awful periods (heavy bleeding, agonizing cramps for 1-2 days) and decided to go with Mirena instead of the other IUD because my doctor said it might help. I have friends who'd had it for a while and absolutely recommended it, said they didn't have any side effects.
Now, I'm not going to make any bold statements, like "MIRENA IS A SCAM - DON'T GET MIRENA" or anything like that, because I'm sure it boils down to different bodies, different reactions. And I'm not saying that everyone is going to experience what I have:
1. Mirena Insertion - (I've never given birth or been pregnant, so they warned me it would be more painful than if I had) They practically had to scrape me off the ceiling. PAIN LIKE I HAVE NEVER FELT IN MY LIFE! I was actually unintentionally scooting away from my doctor on the table and crying. Had to spend the rest of the day in bed, writhing and moaning and occasionally rolling over to vomit.
2. I've been bleeding nonstop for 63 days since Mirena IUD was inserted. It's usually not heavy, most days it's just spotting, but it's enough to require a tampon or pad at all times - literally 24/7 (really gets old after two months).
3. I've ovulated twice now since I got the Mirena. Both times, I was a raving LUNATIC for 2-3 days. In addition to being paranoid, irritable, tired, and nauseous, I had UNFATHOMABLE anxiety attacks, resulting in profuse sweating, crying and other anxiety symptoms. The first time I also experienced a weird sort of pain waves, but I've been told that those are actually uterine contractions (similar to labor) instead of cramping. Didn't really have that the 2nd time, so that's great!
Hard to tell if I've technically had a period, because like I said, I haven't stopped bleeding one day since I got Mirena.
Again, I'm not saying whether or not I recommend Mirena, but I do wish I would've tried the other IUD. I'd love to hear responses, whether you've had an experience similar to mine or a better one! And I would love to hear of someone who has had my experience but can say that it get's better!
