Re: kaposis sarcoma help needed!
I have very little time right now, but your question seemed relatively "urgent", so I'll do my best to answer it very quickly and if you have any ?s, you can ask.
what stage are you? what are your CD4 count (abs AND %), VL (and method by which it was calculated), and CD8 count (abs)?
- KS often occurs at higher CD4 counts, but the disease is usually milder
- if it's just on the skin, it's not fatal, but you need to monitor to make sure that it doesn't disseminate internally (spread to the lungs, GI tract, or lymph nodes) - this can occur silently.
- Anything that consistently suppresses viral replication may help, but I know of nothing that has been shown to do this other than HAART. HAART is generally considered the best way to halt/reverse KS progression.
- If you just have a few lesions on your face, they can be removed (in a variety of ways) without a lot of difficulty, but this won't prevent them from coming back.
- there are a LOT of options for you - if your CD4 count is > 200, IFN-a (2a or 2b) may help; so could Foscarnet (an antiviral that works against HHV-8, the virus that causes KS, rather than HIV). IL-12 may help. This shouldn't be too difficult for a competent doctor to treat in most cases of early, non-disseminated disease.
- As for natural things that may help, there's not a lot of good evidence for anything. I know that some people like ginseng.
