MSM may raise liver enzymes -- while detoxing
This is an ancient post, but I thought I'd share my experience with MSM.
I started taking about 1 gm daily, divided in two doses, along with 1 gm vitmin C. I increased my water intake. I increased my dose every couple days by 500 mg, along with a corresponding increase in vitamin C.
When I hit about 2.5 gm, I was on a high -- lots of energy, happy, etc. So, I doubled my dose and ended up with horrible detox, headache, all that. Taught me a lesson. I dropped back, and started working back up.
I had my annual checkup and my liver enzymes came back higher than normal. My doctor asked me to have them checked again in two weeks. So, I continued with the MSM until a few days before the next test then stopped taking MSM for three or four days. My liver enzyme tests came back normal.
So, my assumption is that I was detoxing and my liver was nutralizing the toxins using lots of the enzymes. As soon as I stopped taking MSM, the enzymes dropped back to normal. This is a sign of a healthy functioning liver.
I ran out of MSM and need to buy more. I feel much better with MSM. It helps me wake feeling good in the morning, not fuzzy, stiff and achey.
