Re: Pregnant with bad heartburn
For all I know, no two people with heartburn are due to the same conditions, so solutions may vary from person to person. For all I know, the same person from one day to the next may not always get the same good results as before. For my money, a cup of fresh brewed ginger tea has been the most reliable remedy. Whatever size tea cup you use, put that much water in a small pot, preferably corning /glass or good stainless steel. Bring to rolling boil, then turn down heat so that water remains just below boil. About a thumbs worth of ginger root (from the top knuckle to the end) will suffice to make a good sized cup (12
ounces for me) of fairly strong ginger tea; adjust this quantity to your personal taste and or results with heartburn. Chop, put in water, cover, then steep for about 15 minutes. Unless there are some exceptionally icky looking spots on the skin, I do not peel ginger when brewing as tea, but this is a personal choice. Steep about 15 minutes, strain and add a bit of honey to taste. If your results are as good as mine, burn will be gone within 10 to 30 minutes.
The next best natural remedy I've experienced is taking a mouth full of alfalfa tablets. I forget the brand, but they are (were) basically a plain, organic alfalfa ... a wad of it pressed into pill-sized tablets and coated with a bit of honey. Usually I would start off by chewing a small mouthfull ... maybe 5 tablets. Then monitor over the next 15 minutes or so. For milder cases, I could feel the relief begin the moment the first swallow hit the stomach. For really bad cases, I might end up taking 10 to 15 tablets over a 45 minute period. This too was a remedy that never failed me .... until the bottle showed up empty one day :( It was the empty bottle that drove me to find another solution, and Ginger was what I arrived at :)
The next best natural remedy is avoiding foods / beverages which in the past have a history of causing burn.... but I still need a little work in this area. Good luck!
