Re: I blame our loss of freedoms on The Great Emancipator "Honest" Abe

If we are to admit the truth, we must face the fact that we very imperfect human beings are still struggling to transcend barbaric ways that have remained our trademark to this very day.

It is a sad fact and commentary on the human race that wars, genocides, atrocities and slavery have been constants throughout recorded human history - and I have no doubt that such conflicts were constants in pre-history as well.  Though often cloaked in religion to justify such wars and rally the combatants, it has for the most part really come down to power and greed among those who thirst to control and possess more land, resources and riches.

As far as I can tell, no matter how sanctimoniously we view  war and atrocities there is hardly a single group or nation that was not involved in such barbarism only a blink of an eye ago, historically speaking - though in modern times there does seem to be a common element, or group, behind a great many of the conflicts.

History books and John Ford western movies aside, the genocide of the native American Indians ranks among the most heinous and massive of all times - right up there with those of Stalin and Mao.
