My Mother's Egg.
You have a lot of homework to do....;-)
1) How come an ultrasound cannot detect all these obstructions in the liver?
Almost all "soap" or cholesterol stones are transparent to the ultrasound. A few rare ones can be seen. (Makes ya wonder what they're contaminated with!!!)
You'll find out that almost everybody has cholesterol stones.
For the majority of people, they have enough overhead that the stones aren't a problem.
Worst case scenario is a congested liver but having a calcium or "hard" stone in the gallbladder, though the "hard" stone isn't a problem for your body to handle.
Upon seeing the "hard" stone in the GB the Doctor will proclaim the GB is your problem and be more than happy to remove it.
Leaving you with the original congested liver problem.
2) How can the liver possible hold a stone the size of a "golfball", which I have heard happens?
It's called inflamed and enlarged. The walls of the GB get very thick to compensate for the abuse. (It's documented the walls return to normal thickness once the collection of stones have been expelled).
I can tell you about my Mother's stone that she kept in a bottle for years after her GB was removed.
It was cool to look at.
Think of an egg that is stretched so it's thinner and longer.
It was about 2 inches long and three quarters of an inch at its middle.
For a kid it was a wonder to look at.

Gracefully Savage
