Re: Parasitic infection could be permanent

(warning creepy content)

way back when I was in college, one of our profs also worked teaching mds. he came into class one day and said, wanna hear a gross story? he said he had just heard of a lady that died a few days after receiving grafted tissue. the graft went alright, but they gave her high dose steroids so her body would accept the new tissue...they did not know there was undiagnosed parasitic infection.

steroids suppress the immune system, which was handling the infection up to that point...the parasites went wild, crawled up her throat and she choked to death.

that story still creeps me out. yea, steroids can be dangerous if someone is heavily infected and not being treated for the parasites.
