Re: Cholesterol isn't the problem??
Well that would be stunning, except for the fact that is is Merck/pharma-giant corporations. We have come to expect them to be lying or hiding the bad news anymore, after Vioxx scandals and others.
But thanks for posting this newest incident chrisb1.
I do have a question though - What about the idea that cholesterol is not actually a problem?
Recent data shows that arterial plaque has little or nothing to do with cholesterol. I might suggest it was a typical ploy, a basic CTP-OTS ["create the problem, offer the solution"] tactic where the medical industry alarms patients with tests that show their cholesterol levels are high, and therefore they are in danger of a heart attack, so they better take some new drugs to get those cholesterol levels down. [cholesterol = "the problem" ; drugs = "the solution" ].
very clever, eh? Clever of the drug industry to use such a tactic to make boatloads of money, and very clever of me to see it as a ploy!! [chuckle].
Furthermore, studies have shown that for patients who took the drugs to lower their cholesterol, and in fact it DID lower it, but THOSE PATIENTS DID NOT HAVE FEWER HEART ATTACKS. [even though that goes against the evidence in your post, chrisB1, that the drugs did not actually lower the numbers].
Golly it gets complicated. Duh huh. But either the drugs did not lower cholesterol or lowering cholesterol does not help us avoid heart attacks, so it is not confusing at all - just stay away from Vytorin and other cholesterol lowering drugs.
For heart health - eat a good natural diet with nuts and seeds [for their good oils], and follow those suggestions at the end of chrisB1's post!! By the way - "hemp seed hearts" have about the best omega oils ratios for our heart health.
