Re: White specks in stool/Flagyl question
Hi,
I looked up flagyl, and I couldn't find the reference that I remembered reading quite a while ago. I believe that in addition to being an anti bacterial, it's also anti-helmethic (good for killing worms, ie helmenths). It's quite possible that if what you have are white grains of rice looking things you could have a tape worm infection.
The white specks could be a lot of other things as well, this is just based on my experience. It could also be intestinal plaque, stuff that sticks to the wall of the intestine, and what you could have is calcium stained plaque. It sounds like the flagyl is killing off some sort of parasite, based on the gas, usually when you do pass a
parasite in stool, it really stinks, very foul smelling, and there is lots of gas. Usually you are aware that you've got something unusual in the stool, and it's very uncomfortable to pass it.
If you have medical insurance, you might want to try to get a culture done, that way you would find out for sure what it is.
