m'ericans need to face reality. Good old fashion yankee ingeniouity will allow those who want to figure it out. Ride sharing(with your neighbor if you know his or her name), walking, bicycles, scooters, mopeds, horse and buggies, making meals at HOME, gardening, use "god forbid" public transportation and sit next to the unwashed Oh no!! There were times in the 50's-60's when a heavy storm would hit S. Jersey. My Dad knew there was no way he'd be able to drive to work, so he'd strap on his goulasses, put on his heavy jacket and walk to work. He never considered staying home or calling in sick. The guy he was relieving at work would have to leave his car at work and walk home when my father got there.
Folks here in RFE are paying about 4.95 USD for a gallon of gas. In the north of the island XMOB is pumping 250K/bbl/day(365) across the Island to the mainland where its shipped to India, Japan, China, Singapore etc US and europe NADA. Shell ships 100K/day 5-6 months out of the year. NONE of this oil stays in Russia. Rosneft the government oil company pumps on old fields, discovered in the 50's under Stalin, and pushes it across the island to a joke of a refinery, that cracks a little gas and desiel. Refining capacity is a joke along with the infrastructure to get there. The crude is exported, and the Russian import gasoline, back in from Japan and China. The locals here can't figure out why there paying so much for gas, and have nothing to show for all the oil that goes offshore.( That's another email in its self)
People here keep there cars in Carparks, and use public trans or walk or use Employer provided buses ( so they don't have to ride with the unwashed, literally)
After work or on the weekends, the traffic gets heavier as people head to there Daches.
Build it, and make it worth while and they'll come.
