I don't understand men

I met a great guy two weeks ago. I thought everything was great, I let down my defenses and really started to like him. He seemed like a heaven sent. We talked all the time. Well he got a call from his ex the other day & now he is acting like he doesn't want to talk to me. He hasn't said that, but I called him last night & he didn't answer the phone. When I asked him this morning why he missed my call, he wouldn't answer me. He was just vague and said "Why does that matter, I'm talking to you right now."

BTW did I tell you that he told me yesterday that he still has feeling for his ex & he was feeling down about it. He said that he didn't want to talk to me too much on Sunday because he knew he was in a foul mood & he didn't want to take it out on me. My alarms are going off because if one phone call from the ex can cause him to act differently to me, then why should I bother to try to make more off a connection with this guy. Any words of advice?
