I am currently in my 4th month of dealing with a place on my wrist. The process you have described sounds very similar to what I have experienced...repeated applications as what comes up in the healing process still does not look quite normal. It is not uncommon for a number of little "eschars" the size of the head of a pin to come up. These will generally process on through fairly quickly.

Everything you have described sounds normal though you could definitely use some "Drawing Salve" that a lady in Arizona makes that really helps to reduce the pain...
