-- Kelp Varieties and Colors--

Hi crzyakta,

Your questions: I have a question though, I used to use Ascophyllum nodosom kelp, which was green and not brown, and I did okay on it, not all that great

I then purchased Laminaria digitata kelp, but have no used it as of yet because I discovered that I still have 11 pounds of this dark brown Algit kelp...so I started to use that, and it doesnt smell nearly as bad as the Ascophyllum nodosom, and I seem to be doing better on it

Is Algit a true brown kelp, as both the Ascophyllum nodosom and Laminaria digitata are green in color, thanks!

Answer: Seaweed Kelps are generally considered to fit into three groups, Brown, Red, Green ! Also, there may be Blue green?

But, the actual colors may vary in each group?

And within each group the colors may vary widely, as some considered to fit into the Brown may look Green etc?

The Green groups generally may be considered to contain more Chlorphyll than the other groups and grow in Different areas and conditions of the ocean !

Some groups grow in Deep waters, while others grow in mid depth waters and the others grow in shallow waters .

And each variety may contain Different ratios of Alkaline Minerals etc, which may make the Colors as they may be?

The Darker brown Kelps may be of a Different variety than either the Ascophyllum or Laminaria Digitata and may work Better for some folks?

And then some Kelps may even look Black in color?

So, a person needs to try to find a kelp variety, which may work Best for themself, and this may vary Depending on if it is Cold weather or Hot weather, as to which Kelp may work Best, also?

This is "WHY" folks need to Learn Personal Responsibility for their own body and Learn to Listen to what their own body is trying to tell each person !

For it is very possible that one Variety of kelp may work Best for a person of a certain Genetics during Cold weather, but this same person may not do good on this Variety during the Hot weather?

This can be determined by figuring out if the kelp Raises ones pH as well as if it makes one Warm in Cold weather or Causes one to get Colder?

To stay Warmer, one needs Kelp with a Higher Sodium to Potassium ratio !

Same applies during the Hot weather, one may want a Kelp with a Higher ratio of Potassium to Sodium instead, during this time , so that they may stay Cooler in Hot weather !

But, the Color of the Kelp, which works Best for a person may Identify the Variety, which works Best for this person, also, thus when one finds a Color that works best, then one may search for the Color vs variety and get what may work best for them?

Some places that Sell Different kelp in bulk, may show the Color, thus this may be a Good guideline for one to follow vs what variety?

As usual not everything may be as it may first seem to be !

Smile Tis your choice.
