Re: Glucose Tolerance Test - Doctor not found

The results from her test came back normal even though she past out from low blood Sugar of 41 during the test. The doctors can't seem to figure out what is wrong with her and all they can say is that they think she has ketonic hypoglycemia, but there is not a test for that so they are not sure. Ketonic hypoglycemia is the form of hypoglycemia in children under 6. She does not have problems all of the time. I always know when she is going to have a low because she tends to have high blood Sugar for a few days of around 190 and above and then she goes low. She also wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and sometimes complaining of leg pain. When she goes low I am suppose to check her ketone levels in her urine and they are always at the highest level. I have told this to her doctors and they just say "We do not know why this is happening". They did want to hospitalize her over night so that they can keep a constant check on her levels, however, it does not happen all of the time. Although she is only 3 she can now tell when she is high or low and she will tell me that we need to do her finger ( check her blood Sugar levels.)
I do recommend that you start by having your daughter check her levels first thing in the morning before she eats and then again in the afternoon maybe two hours after lunch and then again before bed and of course anytime she feels tired or weak. My daughter will start shaking and get really sweaty right before she passes out. She has had seizers from this so that is somthing else you need to watch. I am so sorry that your daughter is going through this and I am sure it is hard for you because you are not around her all of the time.
The test may give you some answers, but I would just monitor her levels and see what you find.
We have spent thousands of dollars on tests and still do not know anything.
One other thing, when my daughters blood sugars go high she becomes extremely irritable and it is hard to calm her down.
I am not sure if this helps at all. I wish you the best and please keep me posted!!!
