Re: Ledger death due to combined effects of prescription drugs

About the only drug that you can be guarenteed that you won't overdose on is pot, although that drug has side effects as well. I used to be more of a libertarian on the whole drug issue, and while I feel the so called drug war is a farce I do not support legalization. Pot maybe should be decriminalized - I don't think you should go to jail if they catch you with an ounce, but you shouldn't be able to buy it in a store. Both of my brothers are recovering addicts, one mainly heroin and pills, the other pot, pills and booze. I had to watch my brother go through cold turkey one time and it was not a pleasant site. I also used to witness him nodding off constantly, sometimes while he was standing up.

I've had countless friends go through rehab. A high school buddy of mine who has been battling drug problems his whole life (he is 40) almost lost his leg recently. He passed out while smoking a crack pipe and it dropped on his leg and burned a hole down to his femur. They almost had to amputate his leg, and I am talking high up, close to his groin. I am not an addict but certainly partied my fair share back in the days, mainly beer and pot. Most addicts are not stupid, and they will do just about anything to get drugs. Both my brothers had multiple doctors writing them prescriptions. One brother did have a legitimate back injury that caused pain, but he was also taking the drugs for the high. People who have never done drugs before or experienced the drug culture have no idea how prevalent drugs and alcohol are in our society today. I have been out of that scene for quite sometime but have some younger friends ard it even amazes me how much young people's social lives revolve around getting high.
