Dual Thinking............O/T
Hi Marge,
I'll take a look at the dream over the weekend. I know this is off topic, but I had to look up "dual thinking". I didn't realize there was so much material on it. Makes me wonder if I've been living a sheltered life. Anyway, read this article:
http://www.mayan-calendar-code.com/dualistic-thinking.html
Couple of things came up. The "fight/flight" aspect.
"The Survival Mind is a natural human component, designed to aid navigating in a third dimensional world. It places the physical primary to spirit in every moment because that's its job. Otherwise you’d be hurting yourself all through the day."
"What the Survival Mind is not designed to do, is appropriately run the inner world. However, it does just that in 99.99% of humanity. It is in charge of the inner state of being, with all its emergency and crisis and fight or flight tendencies and wreaking havoc in most everyone’s life at some point or another. More on that in another article. What we’re talking about here is…."
I've had thoughts on this over the years related to combat veterans. But have noticed the phenomena in inner city children also. The Medulla oblongata (I call it the birdbrain) of the brain is related to the fight/flight aspect of human behavior. Normally, when a person is in a serene state, the "firing" of neurons is minimal. A minor stimulus, which could include a perception of danger, or an environmental stress signal such as elevated sound levels or over-illumination. Once perceived, it is relayed from the sensory cortex of the brain to the brain stem. If a stimulus is perceived as a threat, a more intense and prolonged discharge of neurons activates the sympathetic division of the nervous system. This activation is associated with specific physiological actions in the system, both directly and indirectly through the release of adrenaline. My impression of what happens, are ones environment will essentially produce a state where reliance upon the fight/flight aspect becomes prevalent. Veterans, who have had head trauma, are likely to exhibit violent behavior. The longer they have been in a combat situation when the trauma occurred, the higher the probability of violence. In my opinion, that is a major factor why 75% of the prison population in the United States are veterans (New York Times, "Across America, Deadly Echoes of Foreign Battles", 01/13/08).
So, in the everyday life of the rest of the population, stress would have an impact upon "The Survival Mind". This would then introduce elevated dual thinking???? Interesting concept. However, your dream does have that survivor aspect to it. Having "physical primary" stimulus in your life, might be taking it's toll upon your subconscious ("spirit").
The article above reminds me of Enneagram Riso and Hudson test. I call it a personality test. For every positive aspect that one approaches life, there can also be a negative aspect. What one needs to do is transform from negative to the positive side ("Use the Force Luke") if they are in the negative side. I just started reading this stuff, but it similar to other models (ENTJ). Here is a site if interested.

Anyway, way off base from your dream, but you did mention dual thinking.
