Re: I just got mirena 9 days ago, is this normal?
i had the same feeling when i first got mirena. i have felt like i have pms 24/7 for the past 3 1/2 years. i was told mirena's hormones only released locally. however i have read since that a small amount of hormones do enter the bloodstream. i had mirena inserted at my 8 week checkup after i gave birth to my third child .i also breastfed my daughter for her first 6 months. my first two children were only breastfed for 8 weeks. they were never colicky. my third one began being colicky when she was about 3 months old. she was always fussy even though i comforted her alot. she might just be a difficult 3 yr old now,i sometimes wonder if it is possible if mirena could have affected her. from what i have read they have not researched mirena and breastfeeding. they seem to assume that it does not affect the baby. i have also read on alot of sites that it is not good to get mirena inserted if you are breastfeeding because your uterus contracts. and it could perforate your uterus.
when the midwife told me about mirena, i thought it sounded too good to be true. i got it anyway. 3 1/2 years later my mirena is lost and i have no way to pay for an xray to find it. i have had bloating since i got it inserted. i am always crampy. i have alot of days that i dont feel sick, but i dont feel well either.
like they say "hindsight is 20/20". if i had to do it all over again, i would have definitely waited until i had stopped breastfeeding. i would have looked all over the internet for information on mirena. i would not have gotten it inserted. i strongly urge women to watch out for symptoms like the ones women have posted on here. sorry this is long, but i wanted to share my personal opinion with you.
