Well by giving the poor money it reinforces in the poor man's mind that he's still poor (think of them as a money sink). The only way to help these poor people is to give bits of wisdom when asked for to get out of their present situation. You cannot change their minds, and when they want to change themselves for better then you can help them.

In fact in past when I was a kid and not very brainwashed by the church(meaning the religious teachings goes in and out of my mind without any effect), I would feel _weak_ whenever I see my grandma would give cash/clothing/food to the beggars or poor people. Tweet
