The need is for vaccination, not medication
Ohfor07: "People die, often times unnecessarily, with spasms to boot. Get over it."
This statement is a good example of the callousness that pervades the world of antivaxers. If adults want to make bad choices and forego
vaccination for serious and potentially fatal preventable diseases, that's one thing. It's another when we make these decisions for our children, who depend on us for good judgment.
We can make a difference for our kids by protecting them. Take
vaccination for Hemophilus influenzae, the bacterial agent that causes pneumonia and meningitis in young children. Infection can cause suffocation by swelling of the airway, lung and brain abscesses, septic
Arthritis and seizures.
"During 1980-1990, incidence was 40-100/100,000 children < 5 years old in the United States. Due to routine use of the Hib conjugate vaccine since 1990, the incidence of invasive Hib disease has decreased to 1.3/100,000 children. However, Hib remains a major cause of lower respiratory tract infections in infants and children in developing countries where vaccine is not widely used.
(Consequences of Hib infection): 3%-6% of cases are fatal; up to 20% of surviving patients have permanent hearing loss or other long-term sequelae."
Ohfor07: "If reality phobes want the medical mafia to legislate vaccines for every conceivable bump, scratch and sniffle..."I might one day fall down and go boom, and get a scratch....perhaps rising to the level of requiring a bandaid or maybe even some stiches"
If you'd take the trouble to learn about the seriousness of diseases now largely prevented by vaccines, you wouldn't be so flip about the risks you're willing to expose children to.
