Sounds like exercise would be good for both of you. Your dogs needs it as well as your to ward of the depression. As to your response to the exercise and cable eating. You are still going to have to teach "house manners". But it is far more effective after exercise. The quote, "A tired dog is a good dog" has alot of value. Labs are very energetic until about the age of 4 years. Then their brain wiring gets it together. My lab turned 5 and we thought something was wrong with her. Cool and calm. The vet said she was fine, just growing up. It would be wise to invest in a wire kennel for your training purposes. If you are not with your dog then she/he is in the kennel. They are den animals, so the crate should not be a problem. You don't want to just buy it and throw them in it. You need to practice while you are home.
