Re: 4 year old stepchildren
Are you sure you ASKED KINDLY enough? Try to catch on,...HE is in charge (because you let him be, PARENT!!).
The husband is going to have to pick the boy up and put him in a chair and MAKE the boy sit and listen to YOU both make the RULES.
How kind of you to settle for the boy not starving, he will SURVIVE (most likely, as long as his epilepsy doesn't kill him). And if he grows up without being stuck in jail someplace, he'll have nothing to thank you for (most likely, he will regret simply SURVIVING because it is no fun to simply EXIST, he would rather LIVE a good life than simply SURVIVE.
I imagine later this year you are going to have to start dealing with alot of dental bills because he has made the "house rules" and will continue living on candy whether you or your husband feel otherwise (you think you're having trouble now making ends meet, pretty soon you and your husband are going to have to eat dog food, but that's poetic justice).
Rather than stopping this "candy binge", you're going to send him to therapy and be prescribed expensive drugs that have side effects to ruin his body even more, but you can pay for them by cutting back on the dog food. If he does have another seizure while he's playing a game at his computer screen or watching TV, he'll have to go to the hospital (you can buy the cheaper brand of dog food so you can pay the hospital bill) and social services might decide to remove him from an unfit home.
By the time he's 20, he'll probably have 5 times as many medical problems as he has now and a full set of mercury
Amalgam dental fillings (but he might not be suicidal).
Well, never mind all that, at least right now you're comfortable not having to put your foot down and make the "house rules" (maybe if you ask him very kindly for permission to do so, he'll be gracious).
Three years ago Thanksgiving, I thanked God for EVERYTHING (all creation), and then He asked me to tell Him all the reasons that I'm thankful that I was born. I drew a blank, PERIOD. I still love Him very much, but that is the one thing we never talk about. My mother might as well have had an abortion, but I SURVIVED and still EXIST (other people LIVE).
Would you like the boy to LIVE or simply SURVIVE?
When he has a seizure and is laying on his back, his tongue will fall back into his airways and he could suffocate, that is why people put a wallet in the patient's mouth (to prevent the tongue from falling into the airway).
