Those now with thyroid problems after Mirena... a question.

Those of you who now have thyroid problems after the insertion of your IUD... did you just recently have a baby, or no?

I ask because I had a baby 9 months ago, and 6 months ago started seeing problems much like many of you have shared. After a 3 months with my IUD, I had it removed, knowing it had to have been the cause of my problems. However, everything's only gotten worse since then. I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm quite sure my problem is something relating to my thyroid. Recent childbirth is a huge risk factor in thyroid complications, and maybe, that's all it is - not the IUD. Really, that's what I'm hoping (so that reinsertion of my IUD may be an option), but it did seem just overly coincidental that it occurs so soon after insertion, and especially after hearing so many stories.

I would like to see some real research into this, if the IUD may further increase the risk or if it's simply postpartum hormonal stress, but for now, I guess this is the closest to an answer that might be found. So, have you recently had a baby? What problems are you having now? Tweet
