Re: Religion? - or truth?
Doc,
Very well said.
I would like to read your essay if you should post it.
>>>On part two of my CD I cover some of this. To go against othodoxy is hard for alot of people to do. It's hard to do because of the hold religion has on them. And other things of course but the big one is religion. Which I completely don't understand.<<<
I have an opinion on why it is so hard to do: it's dangerous to question something that has always been held to be true. Because, what if, it were found out that what was previously thought to be true is actually false? Wouldn't that begin to erode everything that had been taught to them? Does that mean 2 + 2 is no longer 4?
Religion is a foundation for everything in some people's lives. If it is questioned, they may find that they are standing on quicksand. It is too scary of a place to be... so, rather than being brave and courageous the ostrich stance is taken.
It is as you say: a matter of responsibility.
Perhaps, maybe, also it (seeking truth) may have something to do with getting into a place with nothing left to lose? What is there to fear in that place? Been there, too.
Best regards,
SC
