i have 2-sided feelings about religion
on the one hand i saw my father going to church (and taking the kids, us, with him) and singing out loud. following the dogma and presenting himself as one righteous fellow.
on the other hand i felt his beatings. now he has had a difficult life himself. and as we speak the guy has changed alot
but honestly, as a kid, witnessing such things, 2 things which simply can not be combined: the preaching of respect, love and the 10 commandments, and getting a beating on the other hand (not exactly in a pediatrician way); i became very suspicious about religion
MY experience created a clouded vision of religion. unfortunately there are still alot of families and circumstances where people cling onto religion at a time where they really shouldnt and simply do some introspection. the problem with religion is it does not stimulate people to introspect. youve got all these stories in the bible but how to interpret and of what use it actually is in daily living is not clear to many people. some people read the bible, then close it without being able to actually grasp the essence of what it stands for and how to apply it in daily living
but, i am well aware my PERSONAL experience created this clouded vision of religion. ive seen alot of friends in my youth and children on my schools who were being raised through christianity have grown up to as great stable people. in other words, it IS in the end a personal thing. you can not blame religion for people who have lost themselves on the way.
i believe though, you CAN blame religion for people not having any inventive or drive whatsoever to, for example, solve their own health problems. too much focus on god. god alone wont do.
i believe religion has its merits. it can be great when in alot of pain having the idea of a higher being, god, having charge of the world and capable of relieving your pain and worry and other wordly things. having the idea of someone looking over you and who knows you like the inside of your pocket. religion gives people hope.
i believe god manifests himself only if we believe him to actually exist. so WE simply manifest him. god doesnt manifest himself. probably we create gods existance with our thoughts and feelings about him.
at the moment we think god is in charge of our lives, god IS in charge of our lives. if we truly think god will take away our suffering, god WILL take away our suffering. (not to take it too literally)
while having said that, it is not for me. i prefer to do things on my own. i only ask gods help if i feel i actually need the help
