Re: My first fast ever, plus a Q about fasting for a sick relative
Thanks for that Fonty, I had read the 14 threads immediately prior to mine before posting, and am impressed with most of your comments. So I am similar to you, I was 58Kg over now and lost 10Kg in 7 days, I still have 48 to go. But I am very pleased with that. So having read your posts, its fast for x days and raw food for x days, then back to fasting. Yes, that sounds good. So if I get really bored, I can go over to juice then raw food. Then after Christmas, back to water fast. But I will stick it out as long as I can. This forum will probably give me something to focus on.
I also have a Russian Friend that goes on about Doctor Malachov. In fact it was she who put me on to this, I had ignored her for many months because she spoke of a starvation diet, then I came across this video on Youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKFR1KcqX9o
which I found very helpful! The video also stopped my parents worrying about me starving to death, when I showed it to them! Now I can understand where my Russian friend was coming from, and I have thanked her for the suggestion, and explained to her that starving and fasting are different terms in English.
Since then I have done a lot of web research on fasting, much more technical than fastinggurl31's videos, but I have to give her credit for explaining it so clearly. I actually plunged into my fast from a bad diet, the only preparation was two cups of green tea! Anyway I have done it now, and it works, yipeee!!
Now I know a lot more, and am learning more each day. I have the Natural Hygene Society bookmarked already, thank you.
I will do this fast as long as I can, and come here for support if I need it. This looks like the best place I have found so far! :-)
Regarding my relative, he will hopefully be coming out of hospital soon, and I will look into that. However there are only 2 doctors in the UK. I can see the importance of a fasting retreat, because he will be surrounded by family and food. But he will be housebound, due to a permanent oxygen supply wired in. The thing is he has got worse as his weight has increased. He is a clever bloke and reads books, I think I will buy him a fasting book and let him read it. He has a mind of his own, he hates hospitals and doctors, he ignores the nurses advice and does what he wants. He hates the oxygen mask too, and takes it off when the nurses' backs are turned. If he finds out this is the right thing to do he will do it. To be honest, there appear to be no other options. His oxygen levels dropped down to 60 at one point (apparently that is very low). So far, I have not found anything that says a fast has harmed anyone. As digestion uses oxygen, I thought a fast could be a positive spiral, as a loss of weight would also be less of a burden, plus the healing effects of a fast. I don't know how fasting affects blood oxygen levels though. Best I can do is give him the facts as best I know them and explain it could be an option, then he will work out how to do it of he likes the idea.
